Inspired by the ever-soulless nature of corporate muzak, Faux-Utopian Vaporwave imitates the cold, lifeless melodies that any number of megacorps would pump into their cold, lifeless office buildings.
Sonically, this subgenre makes frequent use of MIDI instruments and stock audio, giving the impression of the sort of plastic, prepackaged music you'd hear in shovelware CD-ROMs.
The undisputed progenitor of Faux-Utopian is James Ferraro, whose Far Side Virtual set the scene for another avenue for the infantile and consumerism-ironic Vaporwave genre to explore.
