I should begin this section by acknowledging that this subgenre has caused a bit of a stir within the Vaporwave community (i.e. Reddit), who feel that the practices of these artists is "theft" and "lazy," to which I will point out that the first Vaporwave track EVER is literally just a slowed down loop from Chris DeBurgh's "Lady in Red" with reverb.
Lol.
Lmao, even.
With that out of the way, I'll get on with the description.
Barber beats is a recently recognized subgenre of Vaporwave comprised of remixed or otherwise edited lounge and trip-hop music, predominately focused on heavy bass and smooth melodies combined with an acidgrafix-adjacent visual aesthetic.
The subgenre was both founded by and named after the prolific producer haircuts for men, whose back-catalogue provided a template for various other artists to try their hand at.
